Schuylkill River Pavilion
Project in collaboration with Yudi Dong As a part of the 10-day design workshop for the Environmental Building Design Program, this project is an environmentally conscious summer pavilion on the bank of the Schuylkill River. Made from bamboo and recycled fabric, this pavilion has a low global warming potential and can be easily assembled/disassembled. The shape of the initial tower was designed utilizing parametric tools such as Grasshopper to quickly test designs. The towers were then tested in Ladybug to analysis the radiation on the surface areas in June. The orientation and top opening of the pavilion was carefully selected to create a windcatcher effect capturing the southwest wind off the river. The east and west overhangs provide shade in the harsh summer sun. Therefore, the pavilion becomes a sanctuary for people to cool down during the hot and humid Philadelphia summers.
