House of Entanglement

The inspiration for this house came from Yvonne Rainer’s film “Hand Movie” from 1966. I interpreted the moving fingers in this film to be intertwining tubes. In the design of the house, I wanted to create a structure that reflects the entanglement and the movement of the fingers seen in the film. This house is about the entanglement of the physical and mental space. The two primary components of the house are the tubular structure and the site. The physical entanglement is shown in the structure, site, and tubular elements. The mental entanglement is evident as you circulate throughout the house and become entangled through the movement and feeling in the space. I was advised to “inhabit the poche” which allowed me to create super interesting spaces within the tubular elements.
